With the official launch at Sea Salt kicking off the day, attention soon turned to smaller, localised events.
Hastings River Drive resident Thelma Durbridge raised more than $600 on Thursday morning, attracting plenty of supporters for a cuppa and some beautiful home-cooked treats.
About 45 people attended the event which was a really good turnout, according to Mrs Durbridge.
“A lot of our family and friends have suffered at the hands of cancer and this event was to help them reach for a cure.
“My thanks to the Riverside Residential Village for allowing us to host the morning tea at their great venue. And to all the people who helped out on the day … it was a fabulous a day and I don’t want to name any one person.”
Mrs Durbridge said everyone contributed to the catering for the day and also the raffle prizes.
The Port News office staff banded together for a well-organised gathering, raising funds for the cancer council.
