Four men kicked down the front door at 10.25pm. The club was closed and locked up at the time, although two staff members were still inside.
General manager of Wauchope Country Club, Caleb Rose, says his staff were lucky not to be attacked and injured.
“They ran down the back stairs in the nick of time and got away. The men, who looked young from the way they moved, took a bunch of cash and left. The security footage is horrific and frightening.
“They weren’t masked, but they were wearing hoodies, caps and gloves. We had six CCTV cameras filming them and it was hard to get a shot of their faces.”
The club will be reviewing its security measures to see if anything more can be done to protect staff from intruders.
Robberies like this are a rarity at the club.
There was an armed hold-up about three years ago, when the club was open, but nothing since then until now.
Police are investigating the robbery and Caleb says they’ve given detectives a lot of evidence. The men came across the golf course.
“We don’t know what they were driving or how they got here.
“The staff who escaped on Monday night are still working here. We’re relieved that they weren’t injured in what could have been a terrible incident. Money is insured and can be replaced, but the lives of our staff cannot be,” he added.
Police want anyone with information about the robbery to contact them.
