HASTINGS Baseball games got underway with rain threatening last weekend.
In B-grade Pirates played Wolf Pack who were short on numbers so a few borrowed players which allowed the game to go ahead.
The highlight of the game was Daniel Robb's grand slam home run in the third innings when Pirates trailed 7-6.
Robb's big hit brought them back into the game and gave them the winning edge.
Danny Apps hit two doubles and a single from three at bats he also had a great game in the field, leaving the final score of Pirates 11 Wolf Pack 7.
In B-grade Taipans defeated Giants 5-2.
Giants were competitive with bat in hand, but could not convert to scoring runs.
New signing Michael Gough hit two doubles from two with bat in hand while Justin Willingham hit two from three as did Rod Powell. Hayden Walsh hit one double.
The A-grade Giants vs Taipans game was washed out when then diamond became too wet and slippery.
