Musical director, Hamish Keddie, said it was boy band verse girl band in a joint campus musical venture.
"A bit of historical background it's the first musical for the college and second for the Port Macquarie campus, with it's first in 1999," he said.
Auditions began in late November 2015, seeing many keen students ready to dance, sing and act.
"It's been really tricky working with choreography and music, trying to train non-singers to hold a note and sing in tune. A lot of the students have never performed before so they've really had to start from the ground up," Mr Keddie said.
Roughly 25 students will perform on stage during the busy four days.
"But we have a whole group of students working behind the scenes from sound to lighting and almost every aspect of the production stage, overseen by teaching staff. So overall we have about 40 students involved."
Popstars: The 90s Musical already have two sold out matinee performances, but tickets to the 6pm evening shows can be purchased at the door.
"Our shows are on May 3, 4, 5 and 6 all at 6pm. We are rehearsing as we speak and the students are all ready to rock and roll. It's very much a cheesy and quite a funny dialogue," he said.
Written by Neil Gooding and Nicholas Christo, Mr Keddie said the musical should entertain all ages.
"We've got the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, J.Lo's earlier work, achey breaky heart and the boys even do I'm too sexy for my shorts."
