GUNNEDAH product and former professional Peter Loveridge has taken out the Port Macquarie IronMan 70.3 event today.
At 38-years-old and with a hampered lead up, Loveridge was able to cross the line ahead of everyone else despite the rolling start.
His time of 4 hours, 13 minutes and 22 seconds was good enough as Scott Hobson and Trent Larson came in second and third place not long after.
“I’m very happy with that result. I won back in 2007 as a pro and you wouldn’t think it would happen again nine years later so I’m stoked,” he said.
“It’s certainly nice to cross the line first, especially at 38 years old. The body is pretty stiff.
“Work and family commitments mean I was pretty underdone which I find often these days, but it was good to dip my toe in and still give it a go.
The first female over the line was Chermside local Jacqueline Henricks, with the Queenslander finishing strongly despite a hampering foot injury.
“I was really happy to be the first woman over the line. It’s a tough course – I’ve never done it before,” she said.
“Everyone told me it was really hilly and the bike course was tough, but I handled it well.
The rain wasn’t too bad on the bike, but there were a few puddles to jump over in the run.”
She said the rolling start meant it was hard to gauge herself against the others, but she felt she did well all things considering.
“I came into this race with a bit of an injury. I knew I could swim and ride but once I came off the bike I wasn’t sure how I’d go,” she said.
“It was a very measured run and I’m happy the foot held up.”
