The University of New South Wales (UNSW) making a commitment to deliver a promised full medical degree from the specialist education facility, Shared Health Research and Education Campus (SHREC), will reap rich rewards.
Along with the economic and social benefits of being able to undertake a degree of this kind outside a metropolitan area, it will be an opportunity for the university to lead the way and promote the importance of investing in regional education.
Without the locally lead lobbying by those who have been committed to the project from the very beginning, we may have been left with a state-of-the-art facility failing to realise its full potential.
The right decision has been made to forge ahead and make that commitment a reality.
