Laurieton Fire and Rescue arrived shortly after 11am to find the house well alight.
Officers donned breathing apparatus and hosed down the house.
Ocean Drive was closed to traffic in both directions for almost two hours as the fire hoses ran from a nearby hydrant, across the road, to the blazing house.
Neighbours reported that the house was on fire overnight. They said several fire trucks attended the scene and there was just a small amount of smoke Wednesday morning.
Unofficial reports suggest the house was deliberately reignited.
Investigations will continue into the blaze.
