The crash happened on John Oxley Drive just after 12.30pm, a police spokesman said.
"A white Toyota Corolla was travelling west when it has veered harshly to the left and hit an Essential Energy power pole about one kilometre east of Thrumster Road," he said.
"The impact has caused the pole to be pushed back and the entire front end of the vehicle has also been pushed back into the vehicle."
The 19-year-old driver was found unconscious at the wheel by witnesses, and he told police he does not recall the incident at all.
He was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with minor abrasions and was on Wednesday morning in a stable condition.
The incident caused an outage to parts of Innes Lake and Thrumster, an Essential Energy spokeswoman said.
Power was restored about 3pm for 250 customers, which included St Joseph's Regional College.
Traffic was closed on John Oxley Drive in both directions for two hours and diverted via the Oxley Highway with the help of highway patrol vehicles.
Police will investigate the fitness of the driver to be behind the wheel if he suffers black-outs.
