It's the main reason she took the advice of State Cup volunteer and friend Nerrida Kirk on board and put her name down to help in the referees tent at next week's junior State Cup.
"I was just having a walk with Nerrida, we got talking and she told me they needed volunteers so I thought it was a good time to get back into it," she said.
As the competition continues to swell in numbers, more volunteers are required to help ensure the day runs smoothly.
Originally from Sydney, Jones is no stranger to getting her hands dirty and helping out where she can after many years as a volunteer.
"A couple of years ago my son was playing rugby and I volunteered for him then because I wanted to get involved off the field and it was a good way to meet people," she said.
"I've always enjoyed volunteering, then stopped about seven years ago so I thought now was a good time to get back into it.
"I helped out with Ironman for a few years and did a couple since moving here so I think you can probably use the same ideas."
She said volunteering allowed people to give back to the community while helping others out.
"If you like talking to and meeting people, volunteering is the thing for you. It's good for people to get involved and it makes you think about other things than yourself," she said.
Rain and the junior State Cup are two terms which normally go hand-in-hand and she was hopeful history of 12 months ago wouldn't be repeated.
"I remember flying back from Brisbane last year and I thought we were going to land on the people who had their umbrellas up and the field was just a quagmire so hopefully it isn't like that this year.
"I'm looking forward to getting back into it."
