Representing NSW, The Observatory on Friday in Melbourne won the nation’s top award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the annual Australian Tourism Awards, sponsored by Qantas. It took out the honour ahead of six other leading state and territory finalists.
Already noted as one of only several 100 per cent carbon-neutral properties nation-wide, the hotel went through a rigorous judging process to emerge at the pinnacle of green Australian tourism enterprises.
The category is open to all operators, such as eco-tour companies, rural and farm-style retreats and multi-million dollar international hotels.
The Observatory had a dual win on the night: it also took out the silver award for Deluxe Accommodation for the second time in the past two years.
The deluxe category is open to 4.5-star properties across Australia, including big capital city hotels and specialist rural retreats.
