The Panthers lost 15-11 to the North Queensland Cowboys on Sunday to be eliminated from the competition.
Jeremy Latimore’s team had a win and a loss on Saturday on day one of the Nines at Eden Park.
Latimore’s team beat the Wests Tigers 23-7 in game one, but lost 15-14 to the Newcastle Knights in game two.
Latimore, the captain of the team, has had a solid tournament thus far, picking up one try.
It was a close-range finish against the Knights.
Earlier, game one was easier for the Panthers. It was 16-0 in the last eight minutes of the game.
The Tigers bagged a consolation bonus point try, but the Panthers ran out 23-7 winners.
A strong Latimore run laid the platform for a try out wide to open the Panthers’ account.
The Panthers are in a pool with the Knights, Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys.
Latimore and co take on the Cowboys on Sunday in the final pool game.
