The Observatory is one of just two hotels across the country in the running for the nation's best environmental tourism operator. Representing NSW The Observatory Hotel will go for gold at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre up against the ACT's 296-room Crowne Plaza Canberra and 2460-seat National Convention Centre.
The five remaining finalists in the Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism are a tour company for the over-50s, a walking tour operator, an eco-cruises enterprise and two rural retreats.
In addition, The Observatory will also represent NSW in the Deluxe Accommodation category.
Others in this category are Quality Hotel Wangaratta Gateway VIC, RACV Noosa Resort QLD, Lasseters Hotel NT, Mangrove Hotel WA, Yondah Beach House SA, and The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel TAS.
Directors of The Observatory, Chris and Trish Denny, are in Melbourne for tonight's presentation.
They say, whatever the outcome, they are content Port Macquarie will be a featured destination among the audience of hundreds of the nation's leading tourism operators and promoters.
Bent on Food at Wingham is the only other Mid-North Coast representative at the awards.
It is representing NSW in the Tourism Restaurant and Catering Services Award.
