Leonhardt participated in a highly intense training camp at the AIS?for Olympic hopefuls which provided the opportunity for athletes to bond and experience what is required of them if they make the team.
Mother, Tanya, said her daughter gained valuable experience where she was able to train with a device called a wetplate.
The device looks at how a swimmer dives, along with the position of their feet from the starting blocks to give an indication of how an athlete can improve.
"She got to experience the wetplate for the first time where her coach was able to pinpoint areas to improve in both starts and turns," she said.
The Rio development camp was the last of its kind before swimmers are selected in May to head overseas as part of the travelling party with Leonhardt believed to be right in the mix.
"It all comes down to numbers and what the International Paralympic Committee decides," Mrs Leonhardt said.
"But at this point in time it's looking promising that she'll make it, but we still won't know until May. She's a lot closer than she was though."
Mrs Leonhardt said Australia Day would mark the 10th anniversary of the day when her daughter's life changed forever when she was involved in a car accident.
"What she's done since then has amazed me," she said.
The teenager will continue preparations by competing in the state age championships in Homebush this week as an able body swimmer.
"Paige will also compete at Country champs end of February as both able body and Paralympic events," Mrs Leonhardt said.
