Nationals MP Andrew Gee called through on Monday to encourage groups to apply for funding to improve safety in their town.
Applications to the State Government's Community Safety Fund are open until January 22.
Not-for-profits, chambers of commerce, businesses and community groups can apply for individual grants of $250,000.
Mr Gee said his tour of the state showed groups were interested in either improving infrastructure, including security footage and lighting, or funding projects.
He gave examples of productive projects which curb antisocial behaviour by youth through diversionary tactics.
His meeting with community members and Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams took place at the intersection of Horton and Clarence streets, the scene of many violent and antisocial issues over the years.
Businessman Steve Dietrich asked the politicians and Superintendent Paul Fehon a number of questions about improving safety.
Mr Dietrich pointed out the effectiveness of police on bicycles patrolling the area during the summer months.
But he noted that solution was only effective for a short period, and said there were just "too many areas of antisocial behaviour" in the CBD.
He said there were people who regularly use drugs, including substances injected intravenously, near the Town Green.
"I just don't see the whole problem being resolved," Mr Dietrich said.
Superintendent Fehon said "people shouldn't be intimidated" when venturing out at night in Port Macquarie.
Mr Gee said the safety fund's beauty "is it's open to all," and he encouraged community groups to work with businesses in making an application.
Representatives of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, which is responsible for lighting at that intersection, were notably absent during Mr Gee's visit.
Security cameras are currently installed nearby at the Macquarie Hotel and McDonald's.
