IT was a weekend for bowlers in lower grade cricket action last weekend.
Overcast conditions and pitches with a bit more grass on them played into the hands of the quicks, but it was Port Panthers Pirates bowler Ryan Johnson who was on the receiving end of some rough treatment in his sides second grade clash with Beechwood.
Johnson finished with the unflattering figures of two overs, no wickets for 45 runs as Beechwood belted 9-181 off 40 overs and in reply Pirates could only manage 5-104.
Best of the bowlers for Pirates was Rob McColl who took three wickets for a miserly11 runs off eight overs.
Elsewhere, Port City Leagues cruised to an eight-wicket win after rolling Bonny Hills for 42.
It could have been a lot more disastrous for Bonnies with Scott Selway topscoring with an unbeaten 22.
In third grade action Wauchope RSL Blue snuck home over Port Panthers Pirates by two wickets, chasing down the 97 required for victory for the loss of eight wickets.
James Stephens did his best to be the hero with the ball, taking four wickets for 27 runs in eight overs.
Down at Kendall, Camden Haven Red took local bragging rights with a comprehensive 177 run victory over Camden Haven Black as opener Hudson McCarron topscored with 79.
Camden Haven Black was then easily dismissed for 85 in the 25th over, while out at Wauchope, Comboyne could only muster 92 after they won the toss and batted first.
Nicholas Clarke led the way with 32 as Bonny Hills chased down the 93 required for victory in the 20th over.
