It is why he is looking forward to going head-to-head with them this week in the first day of their two-day encounter at Andrews Park
The last time RSL ventured out into the middle they were dismissed cheaply for 51 and 78 so unsurprisingly Day wants more from his top order.
It won't be an easy task against a Macquarie side led by Brendan Badenoch who continues to take wickets at a monotonous level, claiming four scalps last weekend.
"He's top notch," Day said.
"The thing about him that is he forces false shots so we need to stem the effect he has because even at the next level he's superior so I'm going to set the challenge to the side to bat time.
"I'll look to the top order to stand up."
Day believed poor shot selection was mainly to blame for the batsmen's meek surrender last weekend.
"Patience is the key in two-day cricket, but our main concern is the batting," he said.
"We can try and turn our season around this weekend because if we don't it could be a long second half. It's not quite do or die yet, but it's getting close."
With the ball in hand Day was confident he had the bowlers to ask questions of a Macquarie side laced with talent in the top order.
He remained wary of the damage Josh Hyde, Liam Coelho, Chris Cole and captain Michael Pelley could do if the bowlers weren't patient.
"Macquarie are a quality side and deservedly favourites to win the competition because they don't have too many weaknesses,"
"Our bowling has generally been pretty good; we had Port City Leagues none for 60 and then they only got 117."
