With his mum Suzanne Turpie by his side each day and a massive support network of family and friends, no one could have predicted the response the young man would receive from the world.
During the distressing and painful radiation things are now improving and his spirit is rising by the day.
That is thanks largely to the overwhelming amount of support he has had from people all across the globe, including Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar Rashad Evans.
As a massive UFC fan, Caleb looks up to several of the organisations athletes and Evans is perhaps the most well known name in the history of the sport.
Caleb received a personal video message from Evans, who also shared Caleb's story on his social media accounts for the world to see.
This was backed up by further support from other UFC stars such as Aussie Robert Whittaker, Americans Sam Alvey and Rampage Jackson and former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos, who have all sent signed pictures and messages.
"The UFC fighters have been amazing," his mum Suzanne said.
"Rashad has embraced Caleb and is willing him to get better and I hope one day we get the chance to thank him personally. He even asked for everyone to jump on board and send Caleb cards and messages of love and support.
"These have started coming in from all over the world and is just amazing."
While Suzanne admits Caleb has his low days, he remains as positive as he can.
"Caleb mostly says to us 'I can't wait for five years time'," she said.
"When you ask why he says it is because 'that's when I will be cured'."
That's what the doctor has informed the family - that it takes five years to be declared cured. Caleb has held onto that fact from day one.
Caleb and Suzanne will return home to Port Macquarie this month until early January before going back for the commencement of chemotherapy, which is expected to take around five months.
"When he started losing all his hair early November that was hard on us," Suzanne said.
Through all the hardship, Caleb was given an amazing gift earlier this month when Rashad Evans organised ringside tickets for Caleb, his step-father Rob and Suzanne to attend the UFC event in Melbourne.
"We were very fortunate enough to be able to attend and watch a history-making event," she said.
"It was an exciting, amazing experience for Caleb."
Along with the UFC, rugby league personality Beau Ryan, his wife Kara and daughter Remi have also been visiting Caleb at the Ronald McDonald House on a regular basis.
"Beau and Caleb have lots of laughs about some of the dares Beau has done on The Footy Show," Suzanne said.
"Beau was ever so kind to return with Kara and allow Caleb to shave Beau's hair to show his support."
Caleb has now been fitted with a feeding tube due to a loss of weight.
"This was extremely traumatising for all, and I think I will have nightmares for the rest of my life watching this procedure," Suzanne said.
Caleb's doctor, Sandy Clarke is also raising funds. She currently has a fundraiser set up, and if it reaches $1000 she will shave her head.
Donations have started coming in and can be made at the Holiday Coast Credit Union in the name of Caleb Scott.
