One mentioned she had a friend as a young child whom she knew was being sexually assaulted but in her words "in those days you didn't speak about such things".
The other woman whispered "what you talked about today happened to me as a young girl".
These two comments had a profound impact on Erica and her passion for making our area a safer place to raise a child.
Erica's involvement with Bravehearts dates back to 2009 when she worked for the leading child protection advocate in an education capacity, drawing on her experience as a teacher.
She ventured to the Mid-North Coast as part of her role with Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure Show which teaches children personal safety in a non-confrontational and fun fashion.
Erica's passion for Bravehearts continued as a volunteer, first in Sydney and then Port Macquarie after moving here in 2012.
"My belief has always been about making a difference in the lives of young children," Erica says.
"Child sexual assault is not a comfortable topic for people to talk about.
"For me, this was an area I felt I could make a difference."
Erica has been recognised in the 2015 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll.
The honour roll recognises the valuable volunteer work the nominated women do within NSW rural, regional and remote communities.
It is not an award but provides a platform to pay tribute to rural women volunteers who donate their time and energy to help others.
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams congratulated Erica.
The MP says Erica is dedicated to protecting our children through Mid North Coast Bravehearts and is a true treasure in our community.
"Erica was nominated by others who have seen first-hand how her important work has educated, empowered and protected children against sexual assault," she says.
"I thank her for her commitment to improving the lives of others and for her selflessness in sharing her time, energy and knowledge."
Erica says she is humbled and honoured.
"There are so many volunteers, for whatever cause they are working for, and they too make a difference," she says.
Erica is a founding member of the Mid North Coast Bravehearts Committee, which promotes awareness, raises money and supports the visiting education team.
The eight-member committee is working towards establishing an education team here to perform the Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure Show.
Just over 3700 children saw the show in the Port Macquarie area between 2010 and 2014.
Erica praised the community's support and generosity towards Bravehearts.
