The local disabled athlete was a fan favourite, earning constant cheers of praise and high fives as he tackled the 70.3 kilometre course.
For the past year he has been working towards completing the gruelling triathlon and was over the moon to finish in six hours, 41 minutes and 14 seconds.
"I had so much fun, it was awesome," he said.
"My mum, my cousins and my aunties and uncles and all of my friends were at the finish line to cheer me on."
His time consisted of a 35 minute swim, a 3 hour, 37 minute, 10 second cycle and a 2 hour, 21 minute, 50 second run.
He had a tougher time on the bike course then he would have liked, but still pushed through to record an impressive finish.
"Matthew Flinders Drive was a tough part of the bike leg but I got through it," he said.
"Now I'm focused on the full Ironman in my home town of Port Macquarie next year."
He was assisted by his athlete guide Dan Voltz who was stoked for his mate, who he said executed the game plan to perfection.
"Every target I had planned for him was done with consistency," Voltz said.
"I didn't have to push him too much and even though the heat was a big issue he did pushed through."
Bennett's coach Mel Cockshutt made it back from overseas in time to see Bennett tackle the course and was extremely proud of her star athlete.
"He has come so far and it's been a real joy to coach him," she said.
"Both mentally and physically he has improved so much.
"Consistency and hard work really do pay off and he is a perfect example of that.
"Slowly we will increase his work load in training as we push towards his first full Ironman next year.
"I have every confidence in him to complete that course with a good time."
