The Pirates were the big improvers of the competition, going from also-rans to finals contenders in 2014-15.
They stumbled where it really counted though. Pirates were dismissed for just 43 at Laurieton Oval back in February.
Brendan Badenoch put in another typically good performance with the ball. The quick took 5-9 from 10 overs.
Ricky Arnell chipped in with 4-4 from seven overs.
In reply, Macquarie scored 214 and it was game over. The team didn't even have to bat again in the two-dayer.
Captain Michael Pelley scored 60 that day and Dylan Rumble made 52.
Pelley said it would be tough to put that kind of innings together again tomorrow, with recent poor weather hampering Macquarie's training.
"We haven't really had much of a hit out," he said.
Pelley was yet to finalise a team when the Port News spoke to him on Wednesday. Selectors were due to meet last night to put together the final XI.
The only unavailability Pelley knew of was Ricky Arnell, who had prior commitments.
Arnell will be a significant loss.
"He's played for us for a lot of years now," Pelley said.
"He's a veteran of the side."
Badenoch troubled Pirates in that major semi, but captain Ben Woodward was confident his team had the skills to handle him this time around.
"You can't let one player take the focus away from the game overall," he said.
"It's about putting our heads down and playing properly."
He's backing Shane Williams to have a big year in 2015-16.
Williams has a good, sharp outswinger, can hold his length well, and also can bat strongly.
Woodward hoped the team could bat around him in the middle order.
"He's played some really important innings for us in the past couple of years," he said.
Fast man Nick Bartlett will look to continue good form from last season, and Woodward looked forward to the university contingent to return, with players like Jamie Carroll to be a bonus.
"It will be huge when him and the other guys come back," he said.
