ONE of our esteemed letter writers today makes a good point about how Australians and our media are quick to label sporting stars as heroes.
Too often we overlook the real heroes like our doctors and nurses, our armed forces, the parents who set the example at home and on the sidelines and in the canteens at sports and community events, the volunteers and people who rally at emergency and accident sites every hour of every day, and many more.
Without underpinning the work that the abovementioned do in our community, the three sport stars who paraded down Horton Street at the weekend deserved every accolade that came their way.
Sport is a field of dreams and a way of inspiring a healthy and active lifestyle. The hidden hard yards that Ryley Batt, James Magnussen and Janel Manns have completed just to represent
their country is an example to every child out there to reach for their dreams no matter what obstacles lie in their paths.
