Wounded In Vietnam

OFFICIAL notification has been received that Ronald Lesley Styles, aged 20 years, was wounded in action in Vietnam.

The boy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hilton Styles, of Horton Street, received the telegram at 11.45 a.m. on Monday. 

They were first informed by Sergeant Ron Kelly at 4.30 a.m. that morning. 

Sergeant Kelly received a telephone message from Major Osborne, Victoria Barracks, Sydney. 

Major Osborne said that Ron Styles had suffered shrapnel wounds to both legs, but he had remained on duty after receiving the wound, and at 11 p.m. Sunday night, his condition was good. 

No official indication was given to either police or the parents as to how, where, or when the injury occurred. 

Ron Styles enlisted with the regular army in August last year, and was sent to Vietnam early in June this year. 

He was serving as a Private with the 1st Royal Australian Regiment at the time of the injury. 

Before enlisting, he was employed on his parent's farm at The Hatch, and as timber-worker at Wauchope.  

His parents moved from The Hatch into Port Macquarie, March this year.

One other young man from this area, Allen Steele of Wauchope, is also serving in Vietnam. He was recently home at Wauchope on leave.

Cooked Last Night

TWO AND A HALF THOUSAND LOBSTERS

AFTER a “light-on” run, local fishermen struck a crayfish bonanza when three trawlers brought in well over 200 dozen of an above average size from deep water.

Most successful were Messrs. Ron Elford and his son Cliff, on the trawler "Shiralee." 

They put to sea at 5 a.m. yesterday and docked at 6 p.m. with their deck crawling with crayfish - 101 dozen of them. 

All they had time to pull were ten traps, one of which gave up 19 dozen. 

The fishermen concerned have other traps yet unpulled in the same area in a north-south line and these are expected to yield good catches; they re-set those pulled yesterday. 

Elford's traps had been down three weeks - in 65 to 70 fathoms north of Port Macquarie off Hat Head. 

Ron Elford said last night - the cooking process went on for some hours - that it was his best catch in three years of outside fishing off Port Macquarie. 

Big catches are not uncommon to the other fishermen involved - Messrs. Claude and Merv Radley. 

However, yesterday they did not fare quite as well as the Elfords. 

The Radley's two boats, "Septom" and "Tradewinds”, brought in well over 100 dozen between them. 

Claude said their traps had been down 10 days; he said the lobsters were late on the bite, as timed by the moon he expected them to show up at least three weeks ago.

He said the average size was particularly good for such deep water.

The catch should return the fishermen, on present market prices, between £1600 and £1800.  Market prices have fluctuated this year from 5/1 per lb. to as high as 16/- per lb.

Both Radleys and the Co-operative will have the freshly cooked lobsters on sale today.
