As the 12 month anniversary of his unnerving disappearance fast approaches more than 1000 people have signalled their availability to participate in the "Walk 4 William" awareness event in Port Macquarie.
Co-organiser of the event Michelle Brooke said September 12 would be a special occasion for everyone when the distance from Town Green to Town Beach park would be a sea of red and blue.
"That's just on Facebook and doesn't count children or partners or anything," she said.
"The walk will start at Town Green and go along the breakwall to Town Beach park. We kept the route where it is so it would be accessible to everyone and include people with prams and wheelchairs.
"The response has been an overwhelming show of support and there are a lot of local businesses on board who are doing their bit to help out as well."
She said the walk would start at 10.30am, but face painting would be available from 8.30am.
"It's been really good; it's been a lot of hard work as well, but when you see the feedback and the large amounts of people showing their support it makes it a lot easier.
"This is a bit more than just ringing people up and asking them if they want to go for a walk. It's not a fundraiser, it's generating awareness. We want to see this little guys face out there because there are events happening all around Australia which is fantastic."
