The happy couple have been together since the age of 14 and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Unfortunately it has not all been smooth sailing as both Irene and Dennis have had to move into a nursing home due to health issues.
Irene suffered a suspected heart attack and she now needs professional care. But where one goes the other follows and Dennis has joined his love at the Bethany Aged Care Plus Centre.
The couple sold their home just around the corner from their new residence and love every minute of it.
"It was all rather sudden moving into a nursing home," Dennis said.
"I was not well enough to look after Irene full time any longer but this place has been amazing. We can't fault it.
"Everyone is so helpful. It's a really big weight off of our shoulders."
The pair met in their home country of England and married in 1945 at the Bournville church.
They had three sons before boarding a ship and arriving in Australia in 1979. They now have eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Along with regular day trips, round-the-clock care from nurses and assistants plus making new friends with the other residence, life is again looking up for the very happy couple.
"Life is a bowl of cherries," said Irene. "In this place we are getting the best care and things couldn't be easier. We are very happy."
Their granddaughter Nicole Gillan visits most days and said she slept easier at night knowing her beloved nan and pop are in good hands.
"I feel better going to sleep of a night. To know they are so well looked after is a big relief," she said.
"People tend to brush off the older generation but these people all have such a history and so many stories to tell."
While both Irene and Dennis now receive the care they need, one thing that will never need repairing is their amazing bond, proving true love endures all.
