Hastings Valley BMX Club president Craig Maltman is behind the push to "revamp" the existing facilities in lieu of an official racing track.
Maltman said plans for a dedicated racing track had stalled but he wanted to provide Hastings youth with something in the mean time.
"It's not a proper BMX track and it's not going to be," he said.
"We just simply wanted to provide something for the kids in the area to be able to use in the mean time."
"We desperately want a proper BMX track in Port Macquarie but we have hit some problems with funds.
"So in the mean time we wanted to give the kids something to use."
Weather permitting, work will start on the revamp on September 7 and is expected to take at least two days.
"Hopefully it should be ready for kids to ride on by the 9th," Maltman said.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council have offered the use of machinery and manpower to complete the upgrades.
"We cannot go beyond the constraints that are already there," he said.
"It's simply giving the existing track a bit of a revamp."
But, in regards to the goal of acquiring an actual track, the BMX club president said a committee meeting would be held in the near future to determine the best way forward to making it a reality.
