IT’S not very often you get to take in the coastline between Port Macquarie and Crowdy Head on board a Douglas Dakota DC3.
But that’s exactly what myself and snapper Pete Gleeson had the privilege of doing today.
Upon walking out onto the tarmac we were greeted by a plane which looked rather different to what we were both used to; when we boarded it was like walking up hill - quite an experience when you're used to walking on flat ground.
Pilot Penelope Woolard and captain John Dorward did a fantastic job and before we even left the tarmac a beeping sound could be heard which was quickly dismissed as "someone wants to overtake us".
That comment was in reference to the old nature of the aircraft and a belief that it wouldn't go very fast.
It's something everyone needs to do at least once and fellow passenger David Naldrett was rather impressed with his joy flight.
"It's something I can tick off the bucket list for sure. My birthday was this month and it was a present for that," he said.
"We've been in Port for 15 years and the one thing about this flight is that it enabled us to see more of the coastline than you normally do for commercial flights because they go inland a lot earlier.
"It was really enjoyable."
