Motorcycle riders will be targeted by police as part of Operation Saturation which kicked off on Thursday.
The statewide operation was launched by Deputy Premier and Minister for Police, Troy Grant and Minister for Roads Duncan Gay to tackle the recent spike in the NSW road toll.
Port Macquarie police Sergeant Paul Dilley said a number of offences would be targeted but parts of the Oxley Highway would receive special attention.
"It is becoming a favourite area for recreational riders," he said.
"The amount of risk taking in some sections is incredible.
"It's not all local people either, riders from Sydney and even Queensland travel here to ride that road.
"We've even noticed some very flash looking sport cars starting to appear. When your on a motorbike there really isn't much room for error and the consequences can be catastrophic."
Sgt Dilley said the operation means officers will be working even on rostered days off increasing the number of police on the roads.
"Other areas we will be focusing on are the major arterial roads in the area like Hastings River Drive, Ocean Drive and Lake Road," he said.
"And we will be targeting things like pedestrian and distraction offences.
"Pedestrian offences are more along the lines of protruding devices from vehicles like fishing rod holders, non compliance bullbars and any intrusions to fronts of vehicles."
The operation will be conducted in two phases, the first began yesterday and will run through until September 10.
The second phase will get underway on September 19 through until the 28th.
"Really think about your actions and be more aware," Sgt Dilley said.
