KENDALL Blues ended the South West Rocks Marlins' unbeaten run in a thrilling Hastings League match at Kendall Showground on Saturday.

The Blues won 32-28 in front of a vocal crowd after scoring first and not looking back from there.

A good try to in form centre Ken Young six minutes in opened the scoring, then the Blues backed it up when he crossed for his second for the Blues to lead 8-0.

The 16 minute mark saw the Marlins' Mick Judd sent for 10, but not fazed, Stephen Blair scored before Owen Blair Jnr converted for the Blues to lead 8-6.

The Blues kept the pressure on when Tyler Smith crossed and Alex Pearce kicked Kendall to a 14-6 lead.

Tony Ducan (Marlins) and Sean Minns (Blues) found themselves in the bin for the rest of the half with just four minutes left on the clock.

The Marlins had the last say before the break when Blair scored his second and with Owen Blair Jnr on target, the half time score was 16-14 to the Marlins.

The Blues started the second half on fire, with four tries in a row.

Jacob Bignell, then Brad Smith, Minns and then Smith again, found the line, and the Blues led 32-16.

Blair's reply for the Marlins was brilliant.

He gave the Blues a real scare, scoring two tries which had to be seen to be believed, taking his tally to four.

He converted both, but the Marlins went down by four points.

Comboyne Tigers were too strong for Boardies, winning 80-18, while a shortened Beechwood Shamrocks were beaten 38-0 by Lower Macleay Magpies in a shortened game at Smithtown.

Harrington Hurricanes were the other winners on Saturday, beating Lake Cathie Raiders 42-36 in a high scoring match.

This week's games: Long Flat v Harrington, Lake Cathie v Beechwood, Kendall v Boardies, South West Rocks v Lower Macleay. Comboyne has the bye.
