As time slowly creeps towards the 12-month anniversary of the disappearance of the little man in the Spiderman suit, he is never far from people's minds.
September 12 will mark one year to the day since he was allegedly taken from the front yard of his grandmother's home in Kendall. To mark that day a national 'Walk for William' event has been called.
Word of the event has spread across the country with Port Macquarie organiser Kimberly Berry blown away by the support.
"I never expected it to get this big," she said.
"I've got two boys who are all around the same age as William so that was why it was pretty close to my heart.
"It will be a walk from Westport Park to Town Beach and some businesses are already on board to help with balloons and face painting."
Attendees are encouraged to get family, friends, colleagues or neighbours and dress up as Spiderman or in red and blue and form groups of two or more to show their support for young William.
Events have already been organised on social media including in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Glen Innes, Burleigh Heads, San Remo, Tamworth, Strathalbyn and Launceston.
A private group which enables organisers to discuss plans for the day is believed to have mentioned the possibility of someone holding a poster up in America to show their support.
In just over a week 355 people have noted their attendance to the Port Macquarie event with an extra 2000 invited.
"It's not about me, I don't want anything for it, I just want William to be returned home," Ms Berry said.
