One nomination is all it takes to see that person become the next Australian of the Year.
Every year the awards recognise worthy citizens across all states and territories in four categories: Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year (for those aged 65 and over), Young Australian of the Year (for ages 16 to 30) and Australia’s Local Hero.
Nominating someone is a great way to recognise the work they do for the community.
And this year the nomination process has been made even easier.
Fill in a short form at www.australianoftheyear.org.au telling the committee who you are nominating and why, and giving their age and what state they are from.
All eligible nominees will receive a certificate and, who knows, the person you admire could be receiving one of the nation’s most prestigious awards on Australia Day.
Fairfax Media, publisher of the Port News, is a proud media partner of the 2016 Australian of the Year awards.
Visit our website to discover more, find answers to frequently asked questions about the awards and watch interviews with this year’s winners, including Australian of the Year and domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty.
Nominations close on August 3.
