FC came from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at Tuffins Lane in just their second home game of the year for 2015.
Aaron Grose and skipper Nick Davies found the net for FC. Davies’ goal was late in the contest and it looked like a 2-2 draw was imminent.
Daniel Brennan was the hero for the blue boys, rising high to head home a corner in the shadows of full time.
Brennan scored with his first and only touch of the encounter, after earlier picking up man of the match honours in defence during FC’s 4-0 win in reserve grade.
Earlier, it looked like FC would have a difficult afternoon as the host team let in two early goes.
Grose showed nous in opening the scoring for his team. The Old Bar players stopped for an offside call, and the keeper kicked the ball out for the free kick to be taken.
Grose nipped when the referee called play on, putting the ball into the back of the net.
Davies fired a low shot in from close range to even the scores before Brennan’s good finish from just inside the area.
Grose had the chance to inflict more pain on Old Bar from the penalty spot later in the match but his shot was saved well. The woodwork denied Sam Wilson.
FC still has problems with starting strongly, but at least the coaches have fixed up the other 80 minutes.
“The first 10 minutes is where we’re going wrong,” coach Tony Wilson said.
Old Bar’s first goal was a cracking finish which beat a diving Terrance Stafford.
“Their first goal was sensational,” Wilson said. “You can’t take anything away from that finish.”
Wilson paid tribute to Grose’s opportunistic goal.
“He’s done that a couple of times in the past few seasons,” he said.
The team’s reserve graders got FC off to a great start with a 4-0 victory.
“There was a whole buzz about the place,” Wilson said. “The young kids were sensational.”
