Hundreds of people pressed inside and around the town's crematorium chapel to say goodbye to Callum Cordell.
The eight-year-old boy had struggled with illness his entire life.
Two years ago, his parents Justin Cordell and Jenny Emerson sought the assistance of haematologist Dr Julianna Teo to improve their son's quality of life.
He wasn't supposed to make it to December last year, but proved everyone wrong by celebrating Christmas with his family and returning to school in January.
"We can let our little warrior go now," Justin said to his partner, and to the congregation on Thursday.
Multi coloured balloons were released at Callum's wake after the service.
