I WRITE in clarification of an article featured in the Port News of Friday, 19 June, 2015, under the title "Ferry fury" whereby readers were given the impression that I had classified the ferry service to the North Shore as a "want" rather than a "need".

The ferry fees relating to that service were considered as part of Council's entire Operational Budget for 2015-16 and it was in this broader context (particularly as to Council’s LGA wide infrastructure funding component) that my comments were made.
Council is responsible for a large amount of infrastructure and services for the whole Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA and our financial position dictates that we must prioritise the "needs" of the community.
For the record, I recognise the "need" for our ferry service and that is why I supported a significant (and continuing) funding allocation in the approved Budget.
