The lack of funding provided in this week’s budget to make a real difference to the epidemic of violence is unacceptable and shows a lack of understanding about the real issues affecting communities across the country.
One woman continues to die every week as a result of violence at the hands of a perpetrator who is most likely to be her partner.
The national crisis hotline is severely under funded; it was recently revealed that a quarter of calls to 1800 RESPECT went unanswered in 2014.
This year alone, there have been 36 deaths as a direct result of domestic violence in this country.
