Long after they’ve gone, the buzz for those who dedicated their time as a part of the 2000- strong volunteer brigade will live on.
Many of those who helped out for the first time have already put their hand up to help out next year. As athlete Damien Kelly wrote to us, it is the warm embrace from our community that makes the event more than just an endurance race for the athletes.
The Ironman event nurtures a community spirit and becomes a reflection of who we are and what we represent as a town.
Despite the naysayers and their resistance, Ironman has allowed the Hastings to shine much larger than just a seaside town.
