THE professional golfers get all of the attention, but more than half of the starters in a pro-am golf tournament are amateurs and that was the case in the Better Homes Pro-Am at Port Macquarie Golf Club on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Port Macquarie golfer Kyle Flynn was five shots behind after the first nine holes of the amateur section but then shot a par round on the final day to take out the John Hutchison/Cliff Bamford trophy. This was the second time that Flynn has won this trophy.
Flynn had 79 on the first day to trail last year's winner Wayne Stewart by six shots and Blake Poulter by one shot.
Stewart, who has played virtually no golf in the past two months because of work commitments, had a round on Wednesday that he would prefer to forget. It was remarkable that he was able to shoot 73 on the first day when he had not picked up a club for so long. Poulter followed his opening 78 with another 78 while Flynn had a par round to take out the trophy.
Flynn's 36 holes score of 150 beat half of the professionals.
Col Purcell took out the 36 holes stableford event with 69 points.
In conjunction with the single event was a team event. Each team consisted of four players and each team was made up of both professionals and amateurs. The best three stableford scores from the team members counted at each hole.
The winning team score on day one was 117 points and the winners were professionals Matt Millar and Brad Armstrong and amateurs Ian Browning and Greg Clark. The men's single event went to Purcell with 39 points and the winner of the ladies' section was Debra Scott.
On the second day the winning team with 125 points was made up of professionals Jamie Hook and Jonathon Holder and amateurs Purcell and Donovan Roberts.
Graeme Flyght made 40 points to win the Wednesday single event and Vicki Farthing was best of the ladies with 34 points.
