CANBERRA golfer Matt Millar faced a nervous wait after he thought an errant performance on the last hole had cost him a victory in this week's Better Homes Port Macquarie Pro-Am.

Millar won by one shot over defending champion Anthony Summers.
First-day leader Jake Higginbottom slid on the second to finish outside the top 10.
The final hole of the tournament almost brought Millar undone.
He three-putted a bogey in front of a strong crowd.
"I made a mess of it," he said.
"A three putt from the bottom level."
Millar said he was more than disappointed to almost undo all his hard work at the last hole.
"I was a little bit annoyed with the finish," he said.
"You don't like to finish like that. I thought that might be my undoing."
He had the same fate at his home course the Gold Creek Country Club in a tournament last week.
"I had a good opportunity to win there, and made a mess of it on the green at the last," he said.
A breeze from the first day stuck around early on the second to trouble some of the field, before dropping off.
Millar got off to a good start on day two. He was three under after five holes.
A birdie at the 12th got him to four under before Millar cruised through the next few holes, stumbled at the 16th and then again at the 18th.
His highlight was a great save at the par four third hole on Wednesday. Millar had hit a tee shot into an awkward position and got himself into further trouble with the next couple of shots.
Luckily, he chipped in the fourth shot for par.
"I hit some good shots today," Millar said.
"I played pretty steadily. I didn't look like Tiger Woods at his peak out there or anything."
He played in the same group as Port local Andrew Kirkman, and Millar had plenty of praise for him.
"He's got a lot of talent, and he'll certainly go places if he continues his commitment and practise and travels with some good guys."
