NEWS from the weekend’s CountryLink North Coast Tourism Awards is just about as positive as we’ve had in a while.
Tourism attractions from Dunbogan to South West Rocks, but mostly in Port Macquarie, dominated the announcements, and several will go for higher gongs at the forthcoming state tourism awards.
One of the big winners on the night was the Glasshouse. It picked up a heritage and culture award, as well as a gold award as a tourism attraction. It is the latest in a long line of awards won by our premier entertainment facility.
As our reporter for Hot Topic (p10 Wednesday September 5 edition) roved and asked about
tourism drawcards, one respondent said: “Well I know it’s a dirty word, but I think the Glasshouse has had a lot to do with it.” While council’s financial difficulties continue, and as new sets of eyes come in, it’s important to remember the lessons of the past. But it’s also important to move forward and embrace our premier attractions which the Glasshouse, now, unquestionably is.
