A strong finish enabled Andy Davis to blitz the field in the Better Homes sponsored single stableford event at Port Macquarie Golf Club on Anzac Day.

Playing from a handicap of 17, Davis had 11 points after five holes but then made two birdies, two double bogeys and nine pars. He was just two over par for the final thirteen holes. He finished with 44 points, five more than any other player in any grade.
Davis won B grade and he was seven clear of the runner up Ian Campbell, who made 37 points, with Shane Moran third with 36.
In A grade Dave Lacey and Bob Higham each made 39 points with Lacey winning the countback. Lacey had 20 points out and 19 home and his round included birdies at the 6th and 14th holes and a double bogey at the second hole.
Higham started with a bogey at the first hole and then made twelve straight pars before ruining his round with three double bogeys and a bogey in his last five holes.
Bruce Heath was third in A grade with 38 points.
Rod Wilkinson started from the 10th tee and his opening nine was strange. He turned with 18 points made up of a four pointer, four three pointers, two one pointers and two wipes. He then had a solid 21 points around the front to give him 39 points, the winning score in C grade.
Mick O'Neill was second and George Evans third, both with 36 points.
Terry Davis had a good warm up for the Port Tyre World final with a 73 off the stick to take out the scratch prize.
The ball competition went down to 33 points on a countback and the nearest to the pins were won by Wayne Debenham, Ben Hamilton, Nigel Harding and Andy Davis.
Sunday's medley fourball was won by Brett Martin and Mark Crowe with 42 points from Colin Hardwick and Shirley Oakes who made 41 points. Also with 41 points was the pair of Jackson Jubelin and Stefan Walker and they were third. John and Mary Oxley were fourth with 40 points.
The ball competition went to 38 points on a countback and the nearest to the pins were won by Shauna Proctor, John Oxley, Brett Martin and Pat Gunn.
