The previous Saturday Bensley played in the quarter final of the Port Tyre World Knockout and was convincingly beaten five and four by Terry Davis.
This Saturday, playing in the event sponsored by Mike McIntosh of the Hearing Care Centre, Bensley had the great score of 61 net to win the B grade medal by seven shots.
Playing from a handicap of 16, Bensley had 77 off the stick. He played the back nine first and turned in 37, just two over par, before having 40 around the front.
The conditions were difficult on Saturday with the course set up in championship format and there being a strong north-easterly wind.
Barry Tink was second in B grade with 68 net and third went to Dave McGrath with 71 net.
McGrath also won the playoff for the March Monthly Medal in B grade, beating Neil Smith.
But Bensley’s effort was just one of two superb rounds.
Sixteen year old Jackson Jubelin had his best ever round when he shot 67 off the stick to take out the scratch score.
The youngster made five birdies and just one bogey, being two under par for each nine holes.
With a handicap of scratch his net score was also 67.
Bob Higham recovered from a poor start to win the A grade medal with 66 net.
Although he made a par at the opening hole, he then had a triple bogey at the second and followed that with consecutive bogeys at the third and fourth holes.
Playing from a handicap of twelve he finished with 78 off the stick.
With Jubelin winning the scratch prize, second in A grade went to Simon Preece with 68 and third to Nick Ratcliffe with 69 net.
Noel Clarke won the C grade medal with 69 net from Ian Campbell and Peter Cristoforo, both with 70 net.
It was a day for accuracy with there being an eagle, a hole in one and another tee shot that almost went in.
The 11th hole is a par four which played into the strong wind and Chris Baker hit and holed a four hybrid for his second shot, giving him an eagle two.
Len Bryson achieved every golfer’s dream when he had a hole in one at 13th hole and Paul Gasnier almost holed his tee shot at the 5th hole, leaving it short by just 37cm.
Bryson and Gasnier obviously won the nearest to the pins at those holes and the other two nearest to the pins went to Terry Hoare and Bill Shepard.
Sunday’s rain frightened off most of the nominated field and only fourteen players hit off.
The winners were Greg Boller and Matt Edwards with 49 points from Debra Scott and Graham Evans who made 43 points.
