SPEED and alcohol are believed to be factors in a car accident in Hill Street on Sunday night.
The 33-year-old driver was thrown from his silver Holden Commodore station wagon, after it collided with two parked cars.
The impact caused the wagon to spin around and overturn, ejecting the driver from the car. He was rushed to the Port Macquarie Base Hospital and later airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital with severe swelling to his brain.
Yesterday afternoon, the Irishman, who is in Australia on a work visa, was in a serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit.
Police, paramedics and a Fire and Rescue NSW?crew attended the scene.
The driver is yet to be interviewed by police and investigations are continuing.
