THE 17-year-old killed on Hastings River Drive on Tuesday morning has been named.
Hazel Kirkbride, a Year 12 student at Hastings Secondary College, was killed when her hatchback and a garbage truck crashed on Hastings River Drive on Tuesday morning.
Westport High School posted the news on its Facebook page with the permission of the Kirkbride family who, it said, "were concerned with her friends and the community".
The school passed on its "condolences and warmest thoughts go to Hazel’s family and friends".
It said: "For our Year 12 students, there will be a gathering in the Tiered Learning Area at Westport Campus tomorrow from 9am to 11 am, allowing us to support each other during this difficult time."
Counselling support also would be offered, the school said.
"Thursday's HSC examinations have been postponed until Term 2," the post, signed off by Kirsty Simpson, Year Adviser and the staff of Westport Campus, said.
Thousands of people have expressed the condolences - to Hazel's family, to the school and her friends.
NSW Health confirmed a 23-month-old boy and a 41-year-old man, understood to be the truck driver, have been taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital. Both have minor injuries but are stable.
The crash is believed to have happened about 9.30am. Police reopened the road about 5.30pm.
An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
