Noon: Police have been told a small sedan driving east on Hastings River Drive collided with a west-bound garbage truck.

The driver of the car, a 17-year-old female, died at the scene. A young child travelling with her has been taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
No-one else was injured in the crash. However, the driver of the garbage truck has also been taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Specialist crash investigators are on scene.
11.40am: A SES spokesman has confirmed the person killed in Tuesday's crash on Hastings River Drive was a woman driver in her 20s.
Her small hatchback and a garbage truck crashed about 9.30am.
NSW Health have confirmed a 23-month-old boy and a 41-year-old man, believed to be the truck driver, have been taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital. Both have minor injuries but are stable.
11.30am: NSW Ambulance has confirmed one person has died at the scene of the accident.
The spokeswoman also said a two-year old boy with minor injuries was transferred to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in a stable condition.
She said there were no other reports of anyone else injured in the accident.
The spokeswoman could not confirm whether the deceased and the toddler were related.
11am: The Westpac Rescue Helicopter has been called in to transfer a patient involved in the accident to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.
Air crewman, Glen Ramplin, confirmed that one person had died as a result of the collision on Hastings River Drive.
He was unsure as to the state of the patient expected to be flown out but it is believed to be a young child.
9.50am: Police and ambulance are currently on the scene of an accident on Hastings River Drive.
The accident occurred at about 9.30am near the Fernbank Creek turn-off.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use the Oxley Highway as an alternative.
