River's Gift is the largest source of non-government funding for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) research in Australia.
It has raised more than $320,000 in just over three years.
Karl Waddell and his wife Alex Hamilton founded River's Gift after they lost their son River to SIDS.
"To know we are making an impact on the world of SIDS research is quite heart-warming," Mr Waddell said.
"Not only are we doing this in honour of River, now it's bigger in honour all the SIDS babies."
Mr Waddell said the charity was trying to ease the burden a little for parents too.
"We are proud of what we are doing," he said.
"It's rewarding and encouraging to know we are making an impact on the world of research at a global level."
The charity's contribution includes funding an 18-month fellowship for PhD student Fiona Bright in the SIDS research hub of Boston.
The charity has also launched a collaboration between Australia and the United States.
"Effectively we are putting Australian SIDS research back on the map," Mr Waddell said.
People can support River's Gift at the Port Macquarie Running Festival on Sunday during which the charity will have a marquee selling singlets and custom-made running socks.
The charity will be raising awareness too.
