Mekayla Everingham was our golden girl in the pool, leading the charge with two gold medals at Homebush.
Everingham brought home first place in the 100 metre and 200m breaststroke finals. Tom Berryman earned bronze in the 100m and 200m backstroke, while Sam Harris had a bronze in the 1500m freestyle and the 400m freestyle.
Everingham smashed the field in the 100m, winning by one and a half seconds.
Everingham finished .5 of a second ahead of the pack in the 200m race.
She came from behind at the turn to win that event.
More important than the gold medals were the personal best times she recorded. Everingham hoped for a one minute, 12 second finish for the 100m.
Instead, she recorded a 1:11.6
"I didn't think I'd go that quick," she said.
She went into the 200m final as the second fastest qualifier, with the quickest girl four seconds ahead.
Everingham reeled her in to record a victory that was testament to the hard work she's been putting in.
The improvements in time are exciting given the NSW Country Championships are looming in late February.
She's working hard in and out of the pool. Everingham trains every day bar Sunday.
Everingham's parents Tracy and David couldn't be prouder of her achievements.
"She's my inspiration," David said.
This year she will juggle the Higher School Certificate with her swimming commitments.
Everingham has her eye on a teaching career.
The Piranhas punched well above their weight yet again. Port finished 23rd in the pointscore.
They finished behind Novocastrians, Mingara and Wests Illawarra in the regional standings.
Piranhas coach Michael Mullens was proud of all his swimmers' achievements.
"They've done pretty well," he said.
"We were the standout country club again.
"Medals are hard to get in this day and age, and we've brought home four of them."
