Now the next generation is one the way, albeit with a hiccup, with Graham's son Jesse, 18, having two rides at Port Macquarie tomorrow with the distinct possibility he could boot home a winner.
Jesse, tall and skinny like his father but weighing just 48.5 kilograms, would have been well into his apprenticeship except for a track work accident more than two years ago when a horse threw him and badly broke a leg.
He was sidelined for more than 16 months and underwent two operations, one to insert plates and screws and the other to remove them, before he was able to return to riding.
Jesse had his first ride at Tuncurry 10 days ago, for his master Colt Prosser, but finished second last after a weakening horse came back onto him in the straight.
Tomorrow he rides the top weight, Juste Si for John Sprague, in the Queen Of The North 13 Feb Benchmark 55 (1500m) and Zing Zang Ziva for Wayne Wilkes in the Arrowfield Raceday 13 Feb Class One (1200m). Graham's four kilogram claim brings Juste Si's weight down to 59kg following thirds at her last two starts at Taree and Kempsey against harder company than this.
Sprague will also start Pradnya in the same race with his apprentice, Gabrielle Coleman, claiming 1.5kg.
"I can't split them but it would be great to win with Juste Si for the kid," Sprague said. "I have been watching him and he rides well.
"If he can't win I hope the other one can and that we can quinella the race." Prosser, meanwhile, is keeping a close eye on Reorganise before deciding whether or not to start her in the Country Championship Qualifier 6th March Benchmark 65 (1200m).
If she starts she will be resuming after winning a trial at Kempsey two weeks ago by eight lengths.
"Her bloods weren't quite right when we took them the other day so I am monitoring her," Prosser said. "We have bigger plans for her the Queen Of The North and then the Country Championship.
"If she doesn't start tomorrow I still have time. She is a mare that you can only get four or five runs out of before she starts to feel her joints."
Prosser will also start top weight Alpine Dragon in the Steeline Raceday 21 Feb Benchmark 55 (1000m) with the five year old to be ridden by the trainer's other apprentice, Mollie Partridge.
Alpine Dragon resumed by winning a Benchmark 45, with Partridge aboard, at Wauchope last month and while tomorrow's soft conditions will suit him he faces a harder task here.
The interesting runner is the Allan Denham trained Golden Shoes, to be ridden by Robert Thompson.
They combined to win a maiden here on January 8 at the three year olds first start and while he raced greenly he was impressive.
Golden Shoes had to force a passage between runners in the straight then went to line full of running with Thompson doing nothing more than throwing the reins at him.
It takes a promising horse to jump from a maiden win to winning at its next start and Golden Shoes faces an acid test against several older horses with good form.
However Thompson has elected to stick with him which is a good lead.
