Households will have extra collection services between December 29 and January 9 when residents can put out all three bins - red, yellow and green - on their usual collection day.
That means general waste, as well as food waste and recyclable materials, won't build up over the festive season when there is more household waste than normal.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council also emphasises the importance of recycling.
Mayor Peter Besseling said the extra bin collection services over the festive season was simply providing a good service to the community at a time when waste levels vastly increased.
He said Port Macquarie-Hastings was a great place to live but equally a great place to visit.
"There will be a lot of family and friends coming to the area over the Christmas and new year holiday period, which in itself will generate more pressure on households to get rid of rubbish, particularly the present wrapping and food waste," he said.
That's where the extra collection services come in.
Extra bin collections are an annual feature of the festive season.
This is the first Christmas since the council introduced the fortnightly red bin collection service.
Cr Besseling said one of the big successes of the program this year had been the large yellow recycling bins.
He predicted the large yellow bins would have a big impact this Christmas.
"I think the understanding of council's waste strategy now is greater," Cr Besseling said.
