On Wednesday morning the construction site was thrown open for people to walk around and inspect the construction phase.

Zone Commander Superintendent David Gray said the day provided an opportunity for their operational staff to see the building and where it was up to.

"It's an opportunity for local member Leslie Williams to have a look and see where most of the state government's money has been invested," he said.

Superintendent Gray said the new station was in a far better location for them to improve their service delivery to the community.

"The old station served us very well for the past 50 years, but with the expansion of the town and the industry throughout this area we had to find a new location that would better suit our needs for our response times and service deliveries," he said.

"It's brand new; it's like moving into a new home. Firefighters will have plenty of room and it's also good because in this emergency precinct the interaction between all services will improve greatly.

"We wouldn't have been able to achieve this without the funding of the state government and Leslie is very proactive in the community and she likes to see what's happening with the community's money."

Mrs Williams said the project was long-awaited and would provide a significantly different outlook for firefighting personnel.

"It's long-awaited and if you compare what they have now to what they will have it's poles apart," she said.

"Projects like this will give us more local jobs which will in turn inject more money into the local economy.

"If you look across the region it's a major catch-up in resources. It's all on track and it's all on budget."
