After meeting with senior community leaders and members of the Hastings Fraternal on Tuesday it was decided the community should pay their respects to those who were affected by the events of last Monday and Tuesday.
From that meeting, facilitator Mark van der Veer encouraged people to stand outside their place of business or at one of the many strategic locations around Port Macquarie at 2pm on Monday afternoon.
"I suggested to Leslie Williams on Tuesday if there was a way we could link Port Macquarie with the events of Martin Place and pay our respects," he said.
"After 9/11 we facilitated a gathering at the city centre where 400 people attended and I wanted something a bit more organic than that and I feel this is a chance for us to just be a community."
Some of the strategic locations where people will pay their respects include the Sir Edmund Barton Statue, Glasshouse steps, council offices or one of the many cafes in William Street.
All locations will meet at 2pm before the Catholic Church will ring their bells at 2.11pm to begin two minutes and 11 seconds of silence that will be concluded with two more rings of their bells to signify the loss of the two hostages.
After the memorial people are then encouraged to join the gathering at the Christmas tree on the Town Green for more reflection.
