A HALF-CENTURY from the departing Jamie Carroll wasn't enough to get his Port Panthers over the line in a twenty20 thriller against Port City Leagues Magpies on Sunday night.

Carroll hit four fours and two sixes to score 50 neat and help the Pirates to 6-136 but the Magpies chased down the total in a match which went down to the final over.
They scored 6-137 in 19.5 overs at Wayne Richards Park in the May Kelly Cup match.
Carroll struck the ball crisply, as did his teammate Garth Mangan.
Mangan hit three sixes in 23 runs. The rest came from singles.
Carroll's innings even brought praise from the opposition captain.
"I thought be batted really well," Magpies skipper Craig Grant said.
Tim Harris made an outstanding 53 in the Magpies' reply, with two sixes and six fours the highlight of his innings.
Nathan Kerr hit plenty of twos and singles in his 27, while BJ Schneider hit two sixes on his way to 21.
Simon Granfield was the most successful Pirate bowler, snaring 3-20 from four overs.
Pirates weren't accurate enough with the ball, with 16 extras bowled.
One over contained six wides.
Grant said that his opening bowler Craig McElroy was far more accurate in the first innings.
"He bowled tightly," Grant said.
McElroy's four overs yielded 2-18.
Jesse Schmidt snared 2-32 from four overs.
The next round of the May Kelly Cup is set down for January 3.
